Update to "show of hands"

Question:

The eye pain I had when I had Optic Neuritis was a dull ache, which was a lot worse on eye movement. In my case it was not particularly severe, just enough to be noticeable, not enough to try a pain killer. That pain is characteristic of ON; I made the diagnosis myself but did not tell them at the Eye Hospital. They told me I had sinusitis which kept me in ‘De Nile’ 3 days later I had *no* vision in that eye… — Helen D. Hi Everyone! I received so many encouraging and supportive letters. I thank you all for them. It helped a lot! I wanted to let you know that there has been some "progress" since that post. I had my MRI yesterday, and I thank the person who suggested I might want to take a valium before going. The valium helped immensely. I had never had an MRI before, and it was a fairly scary thing for me, as I do have claustrophobia, but the technician was very nice, and patient, and it was done. Now we wait, I guess. I also saw a psychiatrist this week, and enjoyed her very much. Ironically, she is blind, but it was a freeing experience, more than an intimidating one. I knew she wasn’t judging me by how I looked, and I also knew she could understand the fear I’ve been having over all these symptoms, and in particular, the fear I’ve had since the episode of losing my sight for several hours. She was very supportive, and told me she hopes I’ll hang in there, because these things are not psychological, they’re physical, and she knows how hard it is to get a timely diagnosis. So thank you also to the folks who suggested I should see a psychiatrist just for the support. It really helped, and I’ll be happy to see her again. (Her dog was a sweety too. He slept on my foot the entire time!) I did see my regular eye doctor, because I couldn’t get in right away to see the opthamologist. My regular eye doctor gave me a very thorough exam, and though my peripheral vision, and regular vision were both working well that day, he did notice other symptoms, in particular a loss of color distinction, and gave me a tentative diagnosis of Bi-lateral Optical Neuritis. Though it was scary to hear, it was good to hear that someone was taking me seriously, and it was someone who is a "professional", so maybe the doctor’s will start paying more attention. The eye doctor gave me a paper with his findings written down, and asked me to take those to the Opthamologist as soon as I can get in. I do have a question. Earlier this week I had to cancel an EEG appointment because I started experiencing severe eye pain. I had never felt anything quite like it. The pain eventually became so severe that not even pain killers could do anything, and I began to vomit. Is this a symptom of O.N? I have a history of migraines, and though this was similar, it definitely was not a migraine I had ever experienced before. The rest of this week, I’ve had residual eye pain that is kind of like when you’ve had a long crying jag, or when you’re just overly tired. It hurts, but it’s managable. I’d appreciate any information you can give! Thank you all again for your support. It has really helped. ME
