Swimming
Question:
Why does swimming cause sinusitis & is it therefore safe to go swimming after having about of it ??
Response:
It’s possible that if the bacteria/virus for your type of sinusitis is present then you might get a round of sinusitis from swimming. Also things such as how healthy you are etc. will affect the likelihood of catching an infection. Swimming doesn’t cause the infection! But, if this is a public pool, then there is a greater chance of being exposed to things (bacteria, etc) that can cause sinusitis, and heck, even warts! The best thing you can do is to swim when you are healthy, and perhaps rinse your nose out with a saline solution before and after swimming. I have contracted an ear infection from swimming, which is quite common since water can easily get stuck in our ear. So perhaps you can wear ear & or nose plugs too. -Ceridwyn – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Paul Carter wrote in message <7s8mtg$ba…@news6.svr.pol.co.uk>… >Why does swimming cause sinusitis & is it therefore safe to go swimming >after having about of it ??

I wear a diver’s mask and it does not leak or fog up as fast as my goggles used to. My ENT was the one who emphatically told me since I was at risk for sinus infections, I should never get pool water in my nose. I had previously used a nose clip while swimming but after he told me that I bought a diver’s mask. My ENT also said rinse the nose immediately after swimming. I always think about people’s behinds & private parts and boogers being in the pool water and then having that same water swishing thru the nose? ***YUK*** I used to love to swim in the ocean and having the salt water go thru the nose was beneficial. But in the last 10 years here in So Calif. we have too much pollution in the ocean. Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.

I wear a diver’s mask, or at the very least, nose plugs. The chloramines can be irritating. They are substances that form when chlorine mixes with sweat and urine in the pool. They hover right on top of the pool where one breathes. I suppose now I will irritate my lungs instead of my sinuses! So I don’t make swimming as big a part of my work out anymore. I used to inspect pools for the Health Department and I can tell you from experience that many are not very well maintained. Who knows, but I got my very first sinus infection after getting a bunch of ocean water in my ear when a wave hit me… Carol – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Paul Carter wrote: > Why does swimming cause sinusitis & is it therefore safe to go swimming > after having about of it ??
