Sinusitis, Pallate Pain and Weightlifting

Question:

Since last summer when I was diagnosed with glossitis and my dentist thought that I was overtraining, I have now developed sinus problems. I had the flu a few weeks ago and had to travel by plane while sick. Since I got back I have had ear problems and now facial pain near my eyes and now into my jaw and teeth and upper palate. My primary care physician put me on antibiotics and still I suffer from the pain and discomfort. Sudafed helps but I am so frustrated. Has anyone ever heard of bodybuilding causing sinus problems and is this palate pain common? Calvin4…@AOL.Com

Perhaps traveling by plane with an infection was enough.  That is precisely what happened to me.  I had to fly while fighting a bad URI, and the next week I had this horrible throbbing pain in my upper teeth.  My doctor put me on Ceftin and prednesone (?) and my pain went away quickly.  Although here I am 6 months later, and the infection is still with me.  My advice to you is to do EVERYTHING in your power to get rid of it while it’s still relatively early.  After 6 weeks, your odds of finding a non-surgical cure are probably greatly decreased.  Stay off of airplanes if you can.  Take all of the medicine you’re prescribed.  Drink lots of water.  Take hot, steamy showers.  Try to keep your nasal airways as open as possible, but avoid nasal sprays. Good luck, jp -jp
