Sino Fresh
Question:
Hi everyone, I just learned of a new nasal spray called Sino Fresh. Supposedly, it kills mold and bacteria in the sinus cavities. Since I’m highly allergic to mold, it caught my interest. Has anyone tried this product? Did it work for you? Thanks for your input. Lee

================= Here’s one post From: Paul Trusten (ptrus…@cox.net) Subject: Re: Sinofresh Anti-bacterial nasal spray? Newsgroups: alt.med.allergy, alt.support.sinusitis, sci.med.pharmacy, sci.med Date: 2003-08-09 10:07:20 PST I don’t have any specific answers to your request for research results or proof, but my intuition as a pharmacist tells me that this product is of limited value. I see many OTC products that can satisfy their claims literally, but aren’t too useful in practice. I suppose cetylpyridinium chloride "kills mold and bacteria", but how long this action prevails in such a florid medium as the nose and mouth is unclear. The concept is a bit new to me, though, and your excellent questions about the product show that you are a very shrewd consumer. Cetylpyridinium chloride is, I believe, the active ingredient in Cepacol lozenges, so the maker of Sino-fresh seems to have come up with the bright idea of turning this product into a nose wash. But, fifteen dollars? Me, I wouldn’t buy it.

I spotted this stuff, it sounded great. A little pricey compared to other non-medicated nasal sprays, but far less than a doctors appt! Bottom line – feels good, but I wouldn’t advise using it. They screwed up in that they use a preservative called Benzolokium (sp?) that is actually toxic to the mucous membranes and cilia in the nose! A lot of, maybe *most* over the counter nasal sprays use Benzolokium as a preservative. Stay away from them. You can read about the nasty preservatives and additives found in many OTC nasal sprays on Dr. Grossan’s web site.at http://www.ent-consult.com/salineadditives.html
