Something that Worked

Question:

First, I am not promoting nor selling anything. I’ve had sinus and allergy problems for nearly my whole life. I’ve tried just about everything: Nasal steroids, most decongestents, most every antihistimine, tons of antibiotics, I’ve had x-rays, CAT scans, sinus surgery, I’m currently getting allergy shots which do help, I was addicted to Afrin, I even tried acupuncture.  Finally something has worked. I don’t know why its worked but it has.  Maybe someone out there in cyberland can tell me why it has worked.  I’m not claiming this has cured my allergies because it hasn’t.  I still use my Rhinocort.  I’m still getting my shots.  But I have not had to take a decongestent or antihistimine for 2 months. No Afrin. And my sinuses are better than they’ve been in 25 years. Again…I am not promoting or selling anything…this has just worked for me…that’s all. How I came upon this is not really important. I got this stuff at a local health food grocery market. It is:    "Yeast Fighters"       contains lactobacillus acidophilus – 1000mg                caprylic acid – 100mg                garlic extract – 100mg                biotin – 900mcg                some other vitamins       2 pills after meals.    "Betaine Hcl"       contains betaine hydrocloride – 648mg (10 grains)                pepsin NF – 130mg (2 grains)       1 pills after meals.    "Grapefruit Seed Extract"       10 to 15 drops in water twice a day. I think it is the Grapefruit Seed Extract that has helped my sinuses so much. I have read it contains strong anti-fungal properties. With the recent research about sinus fungus this would make sense.  Maybe it’s that combined with the pills. I don’t know.  Grapefruit Seed Extract is also the worst tasting stuff I’ve ever had in my life but I put up with it because it seems to have helped so much. The effect on my sinues is almost miraculous. I can’t believe how much better I feel. I can sleep without having to force my sinuses open with Afrin. I can taste and smell again and breathe effortlessly. I don’t know why this worked. That’s just my story. Happy Thanksgiving Everyone.  Ron.

>What makes you think it is mainly the "Grapefruit Seed Extract" that is >helping?  Have you tried taking any of the above separately to see the effects? >Is there any other way of getting the "Grapefruit Seed Extract" other than in >your water, since it tastes so bad?  How did you find out about this (sorry, I >know you said that is not important, but I am very curious and interested in >this)?  Thanks.

On alt.support.sinusitis someone mentioned putting Grapefruit Seed Extract in the water for sinus irrigation. I tried that and it did help but not a lot. Then I started reading some things about Candida and much of that fit my symptoms and situation. The recently discovered fungal connection also fit as well. I discussed it with my doctor hoping he would write a precription for anti-fungal / anti- candida drugs. He said he didn’t believe in Candida and wouldn’t do it. Whereupon I did some more research and found a similar recommendation for homeopathic candida treatment to what I’ve decribed.  It recommended the pills plus citrus seed extract pills. I could not find citrus seed extract pills. So since I already had the Grapefruit Seed Extract liquid I figured it was just as good. The bottle recommends taking 5 to 15 drops in water or juice 1 to 3 times daily. I first started taking only the "Yeast Fighters" and "Betaine hcl" for about a week and got a little improvement. After the first week I decided to add the Grapefruit Seed Extract. A significant improvement in my sinuses occured virtually the next day. That’s why I think the Grapefruit Seed Extract is doing the trick. But it might need all 3 things to work together…not sure about that. My sinuses have just continued to get better. It’s been almost two months now. I put the Grapefruit Seed Extract in a small amount of water…it’s kind of thick so I swish it around a bit and chug it in one gulp…then hit the Listerine! I’d rather have bad tasting water than bad tasting juice, that’s just a personal preference. It’s been amazing the way it’s worked. Hope that explains it.   Ron.

I can also confirm the "Yeast Figthers" did something to me. Trying to put my hands :-( on the Grapefruit Seed Extract, almost confused it with Grape Seed Extract – beware, they are not the same thing. Ant
