Sinus Mystery

Question:

I agree that what they told you seems odd.  It would make more sense to switch your antibiotic.  You can still have an infection when the culture comes back negative if they did not culture carefully or missed it.  Don’t wait.  Bug them again and ask to speak to the doctor instead of the nurse and/or get another opinion.  It is important to not let the infection get out of hand.  In my experience as an allergy sufferer and someone with sinusitis, body aches, fatigue, fever, and green post nasal drip means sinus infection.  Sneezing, itchy eyes and throat, watery nasal discharge means allergies.  While you wait to be seen, try aspirin, nasal irrigation and sudafed.  I also try extra vitamin C.  If you don’t have a long history of this, the herb goldenseal has helped me before I got very bad sinusitis.  Also, in my experience with sinusitis, I may feel better on some days, but if untreated, under treated, or if I have the wrong antibiotic, it just keeps dragging on. Hi, I’m new to this group. I have been suffering with sinus pain, pressure, headaches, nausea, swelling around eyes, weak, muscle aches, and a general awful feeling for the past 8 weeks. Tried Clariton D, and Alegra D did nothing. Finally, went to an ENT last week. He took xrays said I had sinusitis, and Rhinitus. Gave me antiobiotics, nasal spray and a mucous thinner. Today is day 5 on pills, no difference. I called today and they said my culture came back normal and to keep taking antiobiotics. Why take antibiotics if there is no infections? My concern is that one day I can feel ok and the next day feel horrible. I have missed a lot of work lately and am so depressed and worried about feeling so horrible most of the time. Could it just be allergies and give me all the above symtoms? I have another appt. with ENT next Monday. If anyone else has similar symptoms please repsond. I really need some support. Thanks! sap111

NG,   Ditto on the symptoms.  Seems like a lot of people write in asking about whether they have allergies or sinus infection.  The following are my exact same symptoms for both problems – I can always tell the difference.
