Sinus infections= Diabetes?
Question:
Hi Folks, I have recently read that diabetes can be a cause of frequent infections, and was just wondering if anyone on the list can shed any light on this as it would apply to sinus infections. I have many of the other symptoms of diabetes too, but just haven’t followed through on the testing yet. Thanks! E. DUNLEVY

Good gracious to goodness. Follow through, and follow through now. Sure any type of infection may be slower to go away with diabetes. I wouldn’t automatically jump from "sinusitis" to "diabetes" but if you have excess thirst and urination and other signs of diabetes, PLEASE get tested ASAP. If you have diabetes, I hear that Dr. Bernstein’s Diabetes Solution is a good book. Look at the reviews on Amazon. Good luck. BL

Hi BL, Thanks for the advice on the book, and the prodding for follow-up on the diabetes. I have never been to good about going to see a doctor. I will certainly look for the book, and will try to follow through on the diabetes check up. Good luck! — Edward Earl DUNLEVY

You don’t even have to see a doctor to get tested. The test kits are over the counter. If you know anyone who has one they can test you just fine. Drink a non-diet pop about 30 to 60 minutes before testing. If you do go to the doctor though they have a test that measures your blood sugar over a three month period and gives much more accurate results. I used to get a lot of sinus infections and had sleep problems. I did go the doctor on several occasions but never got anywhere. I had an incident that landed me in the hospital. At that time they tested me for anything. Turned out I was diabetic and like many I didn’t know it. After I got out of the hospital it only took me about two weeks to get my blood sugar reduced enough that I rarely have sinus problems or sleep problems anymore. Its been a year since I found out I was diabetic and everything has improved. Less illness, better sleep, more active, more energy, I am not hot all of the time, and I don’t sweat for no reason anymore. The sad thing is that testing for diabetes is the about the easiest test you can get. The damage from diabetes is a result of long term high blood sugar. It is not something that can be cured. It can only be controlled. The earlier you get on top of it the less likely that you will have long term problems.
