Beware hot showers

Question:

I have had strange chills and fevers for a week now.  I avoided going to the doctor thus far, since I really havent exibited any other signs of infection.  I would wake up early for work and take a shower, then by 10am Id be freezing.  All day Id have extreme chills.  By night, those chills would change to a sweat inducing fever.  Lets just say I wasnt getting much rest or thinking clearly. Internet research pointed to maybe sinusitis or thyroid malfunction. (I try to avoid doctors unless really necessary.  Bad habit I know) It looked grim, and I wasnt getting any better.  Then today my wife noticed my back.  It was red and scalded.  Thing is, I didnt even feel it. What happened was, around the time this started I got a chill from working out in the cold.  I took a HOT shower to warm me up, which always makes me feel better.  But this time its was too hot, and appearently I ’sunburned’ my skin.  Every morning Id re-brun my back in an attempt to warm up, which of course continued the cycle. A little aloe and a cool bath today and Im already feeling 100%.  Im just posting this as a warning for those looking to hot showers as a way to relieve their chills.  The skin is one of the major controlling organs for body temp.  Try not to irritate it or you might be mixing your symptoms -Aaron

Response:

Aaron, what your are describing could be a kidney infection. Is it reasonable for you to suffer possible permanent physical damage by not going to a doctor??? There are a list of 101 possible causes of your fever and chills and your attempt to self diagnose is not reasonable. Sinus infection is not the cause of your problem.
