Any ideas?

Question:

Natalie, Well, I also had a dull lingering headache that wouldn’t go away and I went to my doctor who prescribed antibiotics.  They didn’t relieve the headaches. Then I went to an ENT who looked at my CT scan and said he could relieve the headache with surgery. So, I agreed, had septoplasty and endoscopic sinus surgery. Three months later, I still have the same headache… the surgery had no effect on the headache whatsoever. So, you may not necessarily cure the headaches with sinus treatment. There is no doubt that inflamed sinuses can cause headaches, but that’s not the only cause. Earlier this week I saw my GP, who decided to try Trazodone.  He said it was a muscle relaxant that would work on the neck and back muscles and the nerves affecting the scalp. I am now taking one 50 Mg tablet each evening. Tomorrow night I increase the dosage to 2 tablets. Wanting to know more about Trazodone, I looked it up on the internet. Trazadone is an antidepressant.. Nowhere could I find that it was a muscle relaxant, but it probably is.  I didn’t think I was depressed, but apparently the doc thought this treatment would help the headaches as he had tried it with success with other patients. So far I still have the headaches, but they seem to be milder and sometimes I don’t feel them at all. The Trazadone makes me pretty groggy at night, but I plan to go through with this to the bitter end. If you haven’t had a CT, you should get one and see if there is something in the sinuses causing the problem.  If the CT is clear you may want to look at the kind of treatment I am undergoing now. Take Care. Del In any event, "Natalie Purdie" <truffle…@yahoo.com> wrote in message

I took Erythromycin, Carbenecillin, Clindamycin, Poly Genta Nose Drops, and now I’m on Suprax for 21 days. That’s 56 days straight on antibiotics. During the Suprax (which I’m on until Wednesday) the infection drained out for 7 days straight, but only when I blew my nose immediately after  irrigating. And I’m talking handfuls of green and yellow, up to 6 times a day. Nothing drained for a week and then last night alot of yellow came out when I blew my nose immediately following irrigating again. I think my friend who is  a nurse is right when she says this may be viral. Nadine

If you are still not nasal rinsing, I think you ought          to begin now.  try the method outlined here – - – - – http://www.allergyasthmaimm.com/library/saline.htm

I am suffering many of the same symptoms but also have lost most of my sense of smell.  The last 2 weeks it has escalated and my fatigue and muscle aches are intense.   I too am looking for answers. Did you take Erythroymcin?

Those are all classic symptoms of sinusitis. >Frequent Headaches >Tiredness / wiped out – most of the time. >3 different doctors diagnosed Sinusitis – prescribed Anti bios – no effect >Referred to ENT spec – sent for CT scan >Came back clear >It’s now October and still have all symptoms. >Will a "nasal infection" 1) last this long and 2) cause all the above >symptoms??

It is way too long.    I would get a second opinion from a sinus specialist at a major University medical center.   Be sure to borrow the physical CT films (not the report) for a few days and bring them to the appointment.  Otherwise you will waste your time. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text ->Any advice ( and ideas of what to do next) are welcomed!!! >Natalie

Polyps invariably return. You should be back to your ENT specialist to check and get them out while they are easy to remove, or to check and see if something else is going on. Hello, In August of 97 I had an ESS procedure done to correct a deviated septum, and remove polyps from my often infected sinuses. Since that time, it has been a breath of fresh air. With allergy shots, antihistamines and sprays, my life has turned around. But lately, since about 3 weeks ago, my sensitivities are returning. Even with my preventative measures in place, my nose is very sensitive, I have basically returned to my pre-operative condition. What could have changed? Is this a sign of polyp regrowth? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

Response:

Polyps can return, especially if you take aspirin or aspirin related products. They also may return if there is infection in the nose.  Many  of my patients have avoided return of polyps by avoiding aspirin and aspirin related products and by removing any pus by irrigation. It is common to shrink the polyps with medication and you probably would benefit by doing this. Murray Grossan, M.D. http://www.ent-consult.com

Response:

Thanks for the input regarding polyps. What kind of medication can actually shrink polyps? Steroid, antibiotic, sprays, systemic? Just a general reference would be appreciated. — Walter Fisher Heisenberg  was an optimist, too E-mail replies: Delete "x" in return address (Anti-spam) ENTconsult wrote in message
