I also have no sense of smell because of sinusitis… unfortunately I have been told (by the ENT surgeon who suggested I have surgery) that surgery may not be able to bring my sense of smell back.  Don’t get your hopes up too high… Christian. ———–== Posted via Deja News, The Discussion Network ==———- http://www.dejanews.com/       Search, Read, Discuss, or Start Your Own

Yes.  In fact, I’ve had maxillary sinus cysts removed or "popped" multiple times and they just keep growing back. — Steven D. Yes I have had surgery on 4 previous occassions for polyp removal. I will be having my 5th next week as it has got to the point where I can’t smell. If my sense of smell was OK I would put up with it for a while as I know they could grow back but loss of smell for me could be dangerous. After my first surgery it took 2 yrs to grow back, after the second it took 3 months to grow back, following the third I was advised to have some external sinus surgery of the ethemoid and maxillary sinus. I had this surgery and they stayed away for about 5 years. My polyps are now from the ethmoid sinus area, the maxillary sinus are also opaque but there is no polyps coming from here any more. Sorry to be a bearer of bad tidings but that is my story. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Steven D. Litvintchouk wrote in message <360FE94D.9CA5E…@mitre.org>… >David S. I had exactly the same deal as you. A cyst in my right maxially sinus, had surgery, balance and vision problems continued, had an MRI which was negative and was diagnosed with MS a year later. MS is tough to get a DX for with a negative MRI but in 10% of the cases turns up negative. A Neuroligist won’t make a DX of MS unless you have other symptoms. I hope you don’t have it and I doubt you do but be aware of any other strange things that are happening. On Mon, 28 Sep 1998 02:57:21 GMT, David S. I had surgery to remove cysts and polyps, correct deviated septum (sp?), Sept of ‘97.  I’ve been having problems with balance and vision, so went to a Neurologist and had an MRI.  MRI came back fine but it’s showing a Cyst on the right maxillary. My primary care doctor is checking with previous ENT (who no longer takes my insur.) to see if he feels I should be seen by someone again. To make matters alittle more interesting, my primary care doctor is going to stop practicing in a few days !!! Has anyone had this happen…. Surgery to remove cysts and polyps and then they return ????
