Peculiar (and frustrating) PND problem – any ideas?

Question:

Hi, Just a couple of ideas,  try the antihistamines continuously for several days and see if that helps, they may not have enough time to work.  Maybe what is causing the problem is not in the bedroom.  For instance maybe mildew in shower, exposure when getting ready for bed, by morning okay again.  Change your routine and see if that helps kind of like an elimination diet.  Try not brushing teeth one night, no deodorant, no hair tonic, etc.  Eliminate just one at a time and see if any cause symptoms to disappear. Good luck, Marv "Mike" <witne…@bigfoot.com> wrote in message

You might try changing your laundry detergent.  I had a similar problem that developed over a period of time with some brands.  Even though they are free of perfumes and dyes they can have other substances which you can become sensitized to.  So far I know I can tolerate Sport wash from campmor and Arm&Hammer free.  In principle, you can run everything through a second cycle without any detergent to rise out any residue.  You might try that first but I’m not going to gurantee it works. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -On Mon, 18 Jun 2001 11:41:04 GMT, witne…@bigfoot.com (Mike) wrote: >For the last week or so, I’ve been having a very odd problem with >postnasal drip at night. What color are your PND secretions? If they’re discolored, then it could be sinusitis.  If so, then  2-3 week course of antibiotics should improve things. — Steven D. For the last week or so, I’ve been having a very odd problem with postnasal drip at night. When I go to sleep I’ll be more or less fine, but within 1-3 hours after I fall asleep I wake up with severe postnasal drip. I’m able to partially alleviat  e it with a cough drop, some steam, saline spray and water and then I go back to sleep and wake up without much of a problem. There doesn’t seem to be any connection with nasal congestion (I’m usually not that stuffy, and even when I’m completely clear, it happens) and I’ve tried 12 Hour Sudafed, Drixoral, Astelin, Allegra-D, AlleRx, and Extendryl, all having no effect on this problem. I have a HEPA air filter in the bedroom, along with special pillows, pillow covers, and bed covers to help with dust mites (to which I’m allergic, along with mold and a number of trees and grasses). My ENT/Allergist seems stumped and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mike

Hi Mike! In most supermarkets and drugstores you should find an OTC House Dust Mite Spray which is in two separate spray  bottles, one to kill the dust mites and the other to inactivate the airborne dried droppings. Try the one for the droppings to see if there is an improvement.  I use 5% tannic acid – it’s cheaper. Regards, Duncan.
