Glad to hear your headache is better today. I have an awful one now, and am blaming it on stress and the humid air…plus we are getting thunderstorms soon. It’ll be cooling off, so I’ll bet the barometric pressure change will make my headache active again. Yuck Yuck for me Happy Happy for you!!!

hmm I don’t know. We have a relatively new house, and have done some remodeling and in tearing out walls have seen no problems. The worst is the window frames tend to get a bit of mildew but I am at them with Clorox as often as I see it.
Has anyone just had sinus pain? my nose is acting like it is a dry winter.. bloody snot in the morning (even with using humidifier). I still take my zyrtec 10mg at night. I hadnt’ been using my rhinocort ..thinking it would make things worse. I do feel better today since we had a big storm last night.. guess it could be the weather? tracey

Response:

urgh. Maybe its a bad summer worldwide? Maybe its a global warming issue? Who knows? I know I had to resort to zomig again though. And I took the feather mattress off my bed. I have had it two years and have washed it once a year. Did that last week and finally put it back and it really stinks so even though I had hung it out for a week ( bringing it in and draping it out in the house at night) I am thinking it still is damp or even mk

I have a history of sinus infections, though much less problematic recently. I had a virus recently which I thought I was over, but now I have symptoms which I think point to sinus infection, but because there’s not much discharge (just congestion, relieved by oxymetazolene), so I’m not sure. My symptoms are tiredness, general grogginess, feeling of sinuses in head not right, eg voice not the same (though no actual sinus pain), reduced appetite and sort of uneasiness in abdomen. Just feel really rough, generally. I can tell my sinuses aren’t right at present but there’s no big discharge when irrigating. Is this the virus hanging on or infection? Many thanks, TAS Wycombe, UK. ps I am aware that one shouldn’t over-use oxymetazoline, but it really keeps me functioning and I always seem to wean myself back off it, even if I take it for a little longer than you’re supposed to. General sinus health is good, just get these flare-ups whenever I get a bad virus.

Response:

After I suffered with multiple sinus infections, year after year, for decades, I experimented with flooding my nasal passages with a mixture of diluted 3% hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and kosher salt. In order to flood my nasal passages and keep them flooded, I keep my forehead pointed downward. I keep my forehead down for quite a while, hoping that the anti-infective mixture can get to the infected area(s) within my sinuses and nasal passages. . It works! I have been sinus infection free for about 3 years. I think that I had chronic infection problems with my turbinates, so flooding my nasal passages with the anti-infective mixture worked very well, for me, since the infected areas were fairly easy to reach. . I have fully documented my experience and how I did it at Healthboards.com. There are posts there by people who have tried my "upside down sinus flooding" and have received either partial relief or feel great after getting total relief. There are also posts there from those who it hasn’t helped, and by those who don’t think that it is a good idea. I have no connection at all with Healthboards. I use it because I consider it to be the best facility for discussing health problems on the Internet. . To find out more, select one of the following links: . I tried saline sprays etc. and this all helped in addition > to some flonase nasal spray we had here. The sinus pain has subsided for the > most part. Still unsure if it was due to extreme allergies and/or pressure > change. Believe this or not Robitussin CF (for chest, nasal etc) seemed to > help the most. I have in the last > month started using a cpap machine. I been sleeping much better(my wife > complains less) and the results are promising. I went for 30 day check up > and they changed by pressure from 7cm to 9cm. this helped even more. > Thursday my allergies were acting up, but I was still able to go to sleep > with the cpap (nasal mask-resmed activa). Sleep > lab not open this weekend. Don’t even know if the cpap is contributing to > the problem. Maybe severe sinus infection. Any ideas pro or con (for using > cpap with sinus trouble) will be most appreciated. Thanks in advance for any > input. Lyndell > P.S.
Hi Have you tryed a chin strap?? That Beth said is correct myself, I am on 16 and use a heated humidifier. I have found it to work great. I have just moved to a Resmed Activa Mask, I find it to work very well as you have the straps looser, so it is more comfortable.
chances are you need a heated humidifier, generally solves sinus probs associated with the dry air being forced into your airways. and your doc should be shot for the comment he made about the full face mask, they’d never have been released onto the medical market if they were that dangerous! using a full face mask if you need to is far far better than having your apnea ineffectively treated – now THAT can kill you, in the long run Beth in Austalia "Lyndell Thompson" <lynde…@ix.netcom.com> wrote in message

This was my first > thought, I need a full face mask. again all responses welcome.

You didn’t mention if you have a humidifier or not but most people find that adding moisture helps a lot. You may also want to get some nasal saline spray- it helped me (pre-trach) with adding a quick shot of moisture even with a heated humidifier. I also know of a couple of people who use a nasal flush before bed to clear any allergens- it seems to work for them. BTW- your doc is full of shit. Unless you’re so drugged out that puking in your sleep is a regular habit like some freshmen fratboy drunk luser the likelihood of that happening is somewhere between slim and none. Just my nickle’s worth, but you’d really think there would have been at least a post or two about puking into a FF mask in the past three years I’ve been reading this group regularly. /vic

Hello, I am new to this NG but familiar with newgroups. I have in the last month started using a cpap machine. I been sleeping much better(my wife complains less) and the results are promising. I went for 30 day check up and they changed by pressure from 7cm to 9cm. this helped even more. Thursday my allergies were acting up, but I was still able to go to sleep with the cpap (nasal mask-resmed activa). I woke up the next moning with a severe sinus pain and it is still with me. I cannot change the pressure back to seven, cuz my machine has a smartcard that controls all of that. Sleep lab not open this weekend.
They do not normally have one in their office but can jusr refer you over to a hospital where it can often be done immediately so really it makes little difference taht they do not have it right in their office. A University medical center is one place you can go to that will have one and will have a very good prospect of being up-to-date in skills – but try to see a senior sinus specialist and nit just an intern, or at least get a follow-up appointment with one.

The CT scan equipment is too bulky and expensive to be in a doctor’s office. Generally the ENT will refer you to a nearby hospital that has the CT scan equipment. > Or is > it only a few?
Look around for a good teaching hospital that has an ENT department. — Steven L.

You might check out BestDoctors.com. I think it’s $35 to join for a year. They give referrals to MD’s in various specialties and you can sort by state/zip code, etc. "Jim Jam" <jimmy14…@webtv.net> wrote in message

Thank you for your time, Dr. Grossan. You are very kind to post to this newsgroup and my message specifically. I’ve never had a cervical spine injury. I have been told I have a curved spine as a result of being born premature. I’ve had pain in lower right back off and on since my childhood. As a child ( ~ 8 – 10 yrs old ) I went to chiropractors who wanted me to wear special shoes and maybe even the back brace. But then I was told by another chiroprator that I would just grow out of it. I picked the "I’ll grow out of it" and employed the technique of "ignore it and it will go away." Years later, after college and time in the military and the rest of adult living, I don’t suffer too much from the lower back issue; however I do have a lot of trouble with the back of my neck. ( I thought it could be attributed to my tension and anxiety). Specifically, at times I can’t turn my head much to the right without pain and discomfort. Turning to the left is ok. Pressure applied to my neck doesn’t cause pain to my frontal area, though. > At least do shower exercise: run shower hard to back of neck and turn GENTLY > looking behind you for about 4 minutes.

I will. Thank you for the recommendation. > Migraine is rarely daily.

That is what I was thinking, too. I couldn’t image I would have migraine for 15 and 1/2 hours out of 16 waking hours. > You also may have some sort of vacuum in the sinus with swollen membranes.

That is what it "feels" like. Would the CT scan not show swollen membranes? > Try Advil and Clear.ease . These are both anti inflammatory. Going to get it today. > Also warm compresses to the sinus area. Yes, very helpfull. Thank you again for the Irrigator ( this is a must have for modern day living! )

Response:

I am anxious/stressed a lot. For the last 6 years I’ve had many sinus infections. And I’ve had a virtually constant thumping, or dull pressure above my right eye and sometimes in between my eyes. Sometimes the headache is accompanied by a spacey feeling or dizziness ( not really dizzy just "like" it I guess, hard to articulate ). Sometimes when the weather changes I feel completely debilitated from the head pressure and flu like symptoms. I’ve not gone to the doctor, I’ve just dealt with it for 6 years. Recently, because of the pain and depression associated with it, decided I had to act. I read the Sinus Survival book by Dr. Ivker. I bought the Grossan Irrigator ( its great, by the way! ) and I’ve been taking the supplements called for in the book. I’ve been on this program for about 5 months. I have felt *much* better. My nasal congestion is virtually gone. I’ve gone on a complete lifestyle change to try and resovle this issue. I’ve cut out dairy, I exercise, I eat really healthy, no beer or other alcohol, I’ve lost 30 lbs over the last 6 months. But, I do still get the head pressure at times, and the other symptoms listed above. I had about a 2 month period where I was feeling really good. But now, over the last few weeks … I’m back to feeling like hell. So, I went to an ENT and got a CT scan right out of the box. The scan came back as all ok ( all sinuses air filled and no obstructions ) and only a minor inflimation in the right lower maxilary. I’ve have no issues or pain from there — the problem is my forehead. My ENT thinking I’m having migranes. I’m thinking that maybe it is some sort of allergies because today I’ve had the spaciness and pressure since about an hour after getting up for the day, but about 1:30pm I had a sneezing fit ( 7 or 8 ) and the pressure was gone for a time, then came a runny nose, then pressure and spaciness again. Can anyboby offer me some insight or help with this? Tia, Dazed and Confused

No apology necessary! My husband has very special specialty –he diagnoses developmental disabilities in children between 2 and 5. But before that he was just a psychometric maniac –DH will measure anything that CAN be measured, and some things that can’t or shouldn’t. I hope I haven’t told this story a million times: when we were courting, DH gave me all the tests he had lying around (except the intelligence tests, I refuse to take those). I got the TAT, the hand test, the MMPI, the 16PF, the NeoPIR, Meyers- Briggs, and some others I don’t remember. Then, when he had determined that I was, to use his romantic words, "less pathological than he was," he proposed. After we got married, he learned the Rorschach. But my results weren’t meaningful because he was still learning how to administer it. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> >But can you imagine going through all those questions (there are so MANY) > >with such > >high stakes! I can’t imagine! I imagine it would cause the "situational > >stress" > >indicators 00or whatever they’re called– to elevate every single time. > >When we take tests in our family it’s because DH has a new one and wants to > >practice his technique –so, no pressure. (If we show up pathological it was > >"tester error." That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.) But if I were > >taking > >them in order to have a court-appointed outsider decide whom my child would > >live > >with –Eeeeek! How strange the questions wuold seem, and how frightening! > I’m sure the entire process is daunting for more people, although, I suspect > the MMPI is probably less anxiety-provoking than the Rorschach or the TAT! ;-)

Oh, you’re right. Imagine being with a court-appointed evaluator and answering, "What might this be?" We have a running joke about he ways we will screen BD’s boyfriends. I’ll be taking his fingerprints and a blood sample, while DH is saying, "What might this be?" with the cards. . . . > >Don’t you think? > >That is so cool that you were on the re-norming team. DH will be really > >impressed > >that I "met" you! > He shouldn’t be. :-) Dr. Dahlstrom was my first year faculty advisor at > UNCCH. He was a very nice man, as is (was?) Leona, his wife. I was just one > of the many sources of grad student labor. ;-)

Well, he WAS. What is your practice? > >I hope your sinuses feel better soon. I used to have terrible sinus > >infections, > >and oh, the pain! Have you tried flonase as a prophylactic? Using it I have > >managed to have an entire cold that got better without turning into a sinus > >infection! > I’m suppose to be using… oh, some nasal spray. I’m forgotten which. I’m > terribly non-compliant with medication. I’m every doctor’s curse: I wait till > I fall apart to go see him, and then moan and groan "Fix me!" ;-) > Sheila > >Lisa

>Voluntary. The judge has only talked to SD’s psychologist on his own. In >fact, the doc has told us we can have a hiatus from taking her to therapy >until >the evaluation is over, because he is not sure what else he can do for her >until her living situation is different.

You might want to ask for court ordered therapy as part of this. We have it where SS’s therapist sends a report to the judge and court psych every 6 months. It not only includes things about SS, but how his parents are doing in helping him. Love, Melissa http://ryangiglierano.homestead.com/home.html "Bad Spellers of the world UNTIE!"

Oye! The MMPI! "I smell strange odors at times." "I have sinned greatly." It goes on forever and I can’t imagine answering all those stupid questions with a child’s well-being at stake.
>Is SD’s therapy currently court ordered, or voluntary? Does the psych make >regular reports to the judge?

Voluntary. The judge has only talked to SD’s psychologist on his own. In fact, the doc has told us we can have a hiatus from taking her to therapy until the evaluation is over, because he is not sure what else he can do for her until her living situation is different. *** ~~Geri~~ http://www.philhendrieshow.com/boycott.html "We should seek by all means in our power to avoid war, by analyzing possible causes, by trying to remove them, by discussion in a spirit of collaboration and good will. " Neville Chamberlain

>Yesterday we had another appointment with the court evaluator, both Brian and >me and SD. The evaluator really didn’t talk to us much, but what he had each >of us do was play with this wooden dollhouse, with a bunch of furniture, with >SD. There were little dolls, but they were not like role-playing dolls, as >they >were all girls. It was very bizarre. I felt very self-conscious, actually, >and so did Brian. The dollhouse was not the kind of playing we normally do >with SD, really, and kind of young, even for her. Anyway, any ideas what he >might have been looking for? >*** >~~Geri~~

He was looking to see how you interacted with SD. BM will probably have to do the same thing. He was probably more interested in the way you relate to her than the actual toys, how you played rather than what you played with. SO and BM both had to do this during SS’s evaluation. The court psych watched in another room with one of those one way mirror things. It came up in the evaluation with the court psych talking about how BM wasn’t interacting with SS in a manner that was appropriate for his age.
>Maybe to see how directive you are, or if you let her lead, what your >reactions look like when she does take the lead, how open she is to >trying new things when you’re with her…

I felt like I was being graded. I picked out pieces of furniture and handed them to SD and asked her where she wanted to put them. I kind of followed her lead with this, because is very perfectionistic about things. I showed her the toy vanity and told her that this was what I had been explaining to her the other day, (we had been talking about a vanity for her room) where it is like a desk with a mirror that you can put all of your lotions and potions on and sit in front of. There were a couple of pieces broken off the house and we decided what we could do with them. I put one of the dolls in the bath tub and she laughed and took it out and started singing, "Singing in the bathtub …", and we both laughed. Things like that. I hope I passed the test! *** ~~Geri~~ http://www.philhendrieshow.com/boycott.html "We should seek by all means in our power to avoid war, by analyzing possible causes, by trying to remove them, by discussion in a spirit of collaboration and good will. " Neville Chamberlain

I have one question. Why did you see your RD after only 15 days on Plaquinel? Did he prescribe it 15 days ago? As I recall you were talking about going on Plaquinel this past fall. It is important to take stuff when it is prescribe and not wait months. Drs won’t take you seriously if you do that.
Response:

I tried it before and they had me go off of it, in then he prescribed it again 4 weeks ago and I had have some dental surgery and said to wait unitl that was over, now it was time again for my appointment, he has me see him every 4 weeks for some reason. He also was hoping that my new orthodics would have kicked in by then also,w hich they haven’t. I think the plaquenil is helping my feet, but he said it was to early to tell from that and it was probably me backing off exercise that was making them better. Since I have felt worse since taking the plaquneil, on day 4 a bad sore throat, extreme fatigue, I have never had fatigue before with the RA, and now chonric sinus pain, swollen lumph nodes in neck he thought I should go off it and increase the naproxen, which I already take 1500 mg a day and see him in 4 more weeks, he also prescribed an antibiodic for me if I feel I did it, how am I suppsoe to know. I really wanted to take something to help but why take one thing that makes the feet feel a little better but the rest of your body feel like crap! Ithink that I am just going to give up on all doctors and take nothing and then if this gets worse, oh well, at this point in my life Ireally truly don’t care anymore I am just plain tired of dealing with it all!
I posted about frustration with the drug plaquenil, anyway saw the RD today, I have felt terrible since on this stuff, now have a full blown sinus infection, anyway the doc said that the plaquenil can make some people have extreme fatigue, which I was having but not usually, anyway I asked what should we do next? He said increase the naproxen, I hate to put you on stuff that can destroy your liver! I explained how my feet were really hurting and even though I had been on the plaquneil only15 days it seemed to be helping, he said couldn’t be that it was way to soon for plaquneil to be kicking in. I asked about MTX or the antibiotic treatment or anything else out there and he again stated you have had no joint progression in over a year, that is good, but I exampled the pain has gotten a lot worse and I know see joint swelling, he said take more naproxen! I have already seen 3 docs! Just had to post to grip, I am really about at my wits end with frustration, I really thought that today was going to be the answer to my questions, oh well guess I was wrong.
Response:

Becky, It is really too soon to have seen results with plaquenil. It is also too soon to say after 15 days if the fatique was from the plaquenil especially since you have a sinus infection. I would give it a bit longer personally. Is it only your feet bothering you? How about hands? Both feet or more one? Toes or ankles? How much naproxen are you taking? What about morning stiffness. All of these things need to be taken into consideration. Does icing your feet make a difference? Are you always wearing your shoes with orthotics even when walking around the house? Are you taking the naproxen all the time and not missing any doses – it does build up in your system. Depending on your answers he could be right. Unfortunately it takes a while for plaquenil to kick in but takes just as long for mtx or antibiotic to kick in as well. If only your feet are affected and only minor with little visible joint swelling (and if he is a rd he will be able to tell if it is joint or tendon swelling upon examination usually) maybe he wants to try the lessor drugs first. To give him his due for some people with minor RA this works. If you are not comfortable with this you need to again document everything. Try drdoc page and go over the information. If all 3 doctors though are saying the same thing it might just take time to do the increased naproxen and the plaquenil and then let them see the results. Wish I could say more but without the above information what more can a person say. What does your primary doctor think? {{hugs}} Kelly

X-No-Archive: yes i did that i watched red green and then animal videos and then iron chef with boy (who fell asleep on me but woulda complained mightily if i’d woken him up during the show to put him to bed…hmmm…never thought of doing it during the ads..oh well..next week) we watched the lobster battle with ron seigel from san francisco and sakai…it was way drool inducing. Oh I’ve seen that show – it was really really a good one. They did amazing things with lobsters. They ain’t just for boiling and more. ;-)

on new year’s day they had an iron chef marathon…heh…we watched it most of the day all the drama of a a wagner opera with bad translations added in for spice then after boy went to bed i watched tlc..one show about the capture of the texas 7 and then two shows "True Stories From the MOrgue" facinating stuff…then i watched some extraneous eye candy and went to bed… TLC has some great true crime shows

yep…as does the court channel. heh..we have one here that’s sort of like "cops" is in the states…called "to serve and protect". they follow rcmp officers around as they do their shifts. most of the criminals are typically canadian..polite "yes sir", "no sir", "yes, that’s my dope" amazing…only one car chase. the rarity is the criminal who’s impolite and resists arrest. thus far today i’ve broken a fingernail below the quick and had to trim and bandage it so it has padding and made coffee..i haven’t looked at myself in the mirror yet, but i suspect that medusa walks… I just got up – to awful sinus pain – it needs to warm up here so I get some relief. Its fading now, I took some medicine. But I haven’t looked in the mirror either. I just walked out to walk buford and prolly shocked the hell out of the neighbors. ;-)

bummer about the sinus pain…do you have one of those gel face packs to heat up and wear? you end up looking like batwoman but they feel great heh..that would *really* give the neighbours something to look at (oh, and don’t forget to tie a towel around your neck for a cape ) Sorry bout the nail – that hurts – its why I get overlays, its rare when I have breakage.

i don’t usually break nails…they bend in a strong wind. the angle musta been just right to snap this one though. it’s gonna make practicing recorder today umm….interesting naomi
