Enbrel Side Effects
Question:
Hi johnie, Somebody here, I forget who it was, started stretching out her Enbrel until she was taking it every 10 days and did just great. I’ve heard of several who take it once a week and somebody on here took it three times a week. Good luck to you on Enbrel!
Gloria, I was hoping you would catch my question. I just discussed it yesterday with my RD and she has a coupla people on it once a week doing very well. We are going to hold off for awhile as I am in a pretty good remission right now. There are a few more advanced treatments coming up soon that she thinks will work better for me when I need them. We did decide that at the first signs of trouble we will start the enbrel. My call. I love my new RD. She is the best. Thanks. johnie
Response:
johnie, so glad to hear you’re in remission! that’s super. as for me, if i skip one dose of enbrel, i know it. diane
Response:
Diane, thanks/The remission was overdue and with a little luck it will be an extended stay. Its helps for me to know that if needed I can get on enbrel within a few days. johnie – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – johnie, so glad to hear you’re in remission! that’s super. as for me, if i skip one dose of enbrel, i know it.

Harv, thanks. I asked the wrong question. sorry. I meant to and am now asking: Has anyone altered the protocol from twice weekly to ‘Once’ weekly? johnie moonglow

Thanks Harv, sounds like a plan. Lyn – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Hi Beth. My only side effect is that my nails are constantly breaking, splitting. Just got over a cold and sinus infection and will start up Enbrel tomorrow. As a bit of info. In one of the issues of Health magazine, it said the worst thing to do is blow your nose. It brings up the bacteria and will cause a sinus infection. They said the best thing to do is use a decongestant to dry it up. Yeah right. However, I do think that is what caused my sinus infection, as I do get carried away with blowing my nose when it bugs me. Lyn Hi Lyn, Sooo true. One of the best things you can do is to breath through your nose while in a steam bath which kill about a third of the germs a person picks up from being around people. Sinus infection can become serious and should not be just put up with. I have been on Enbel for almost a year and have not had a problem with my sinuses but I also take steam baths a couple of times a week. Harv

My only side effect is that my nails are constantly breaking, splitting. My nails have been breaking and splitting nearly 3 decades. I cannot remember if this began happening just before or shortly after I started on Indocine, but it was within that time frame. .. I’m just curious… Has anyone else experienced side effects with Enbrel?
Just got over 2nd sinus infection with Enbrel,,was given Nasarel, which is steroid nasal spray that really relieves sinus pain quickly, also given antibiotic. Sinus infections are one of most prevalent side effects. Also had case of really bad hives at first. I am still on it but wonder sometimes if it is doing any good at all, afraid to stop for fear things will get worse and can’t take much more as things are now. If it works for you just lay off to infection gone, then go back. Prggy

Unfortunately it didnt do squat for my RA. As I will be starting enbrel soon the one worry I have is sinus infections. Im always borderline in that dept. and had sinus surgery a year ago. Another question for all you enbrelmaniacs. Has anyone here used enbrel on an every other day schedule ? johnie

I’m just curious… Has anyone else experienced side effects with Enbrel? Since I’ve been on it, I’ve had a runny nose – constantly!!, plus a couple of sinus infections and a couple of minor head colds ( I’ve been on it since last Fall). My RD’s office says those are all related to the Enbrel and that I should stop taking it while I’m fighting the colds/sinus things… The first time I had to stop taking it, no problem, but this last time – I had to bump up the Prednisone! Kind of depressing as I finally got that down to 2 1/2 mg every couple of days – Other than all of that nuisance "stuff", the Enbrel and I are getting along GREAT!! I finally am beginning to feel like a social human being again ( after two + years of hibernating!) Is this just a nuisance I should live with, or should I think about yet another drug?!? Beth
