smoke and sinus flare up
Question:
I was at the end of a slight sinus infection until yesterday when there was a large fire in the hills near my house. I woke up today with a very bad flare-up. Could there be a connection? I already used up my anitbiotics and would like to avoid another Dr. visit. Any comments, suggestions?
Response:
For me, smoke and sinusitis go hand in hand. Smoke is very irritating to the sinuses. When I had a wood stove I had severe sinusitis. I understand that people who live in Alaska have a very high sinusitis rate due to all the wood stoves and log fires. Perhaps nasal irrigation would be helpful.
Response:
any rinsing of the nose can be beneficial after a fire. Murray Grossan, M.D. http://www.ent-consult.com http://www.hydromedonline.com
