Nasal irrigation after septoplasty question

Question:

(This is really to Dr. Grossan, but I thought others might be interested) It’s been one week since my septoplasty / bilateral turbinate resection, and when he took out my splints, my ENT said that I could start using my Grossan irrigator tip again. Do you have any recommendations as to: * how often to  irrigate * how much saline to should use when irrigating * how long to continue irrigating (until my nose heals or longer) Finally, will regular nasal irrigation while I recover help speed up the process? (If so, and if you have the time, I’d really like to know what makes it beneficial under these circumstances.) Thanks very much, Mike

Response:

Start slowly, low pressure about 150 cc each side, not more, twice a day. Add one teaspoon to 500 cc – a pint of warm water. After nose is OK no advantage to continuing irrgation don’t need to be more normal. But do irrigation  only if doctor says to do this.
