How to use a Saline Nasal Spray
Question:
My doc said I should use a nasal spray about twice a day for my nose… but how does this work? This is how I use it….I use Breathe Right Saline Nasal Spray I just stick the thing in my nose and squirt it….since I am in a normal position, its sprays it like a mist….ummm I sometimes will try to sniff it in while I squirt it…but than it feels tingly….than it starts to drip and I just blow my nose and let it all come out…is that how its suppose to be? Or do I tilt my head and let it drop into my nose and let it stay in there?? Thanks for any help

I like to sniff it in and lie back and let it soak in. After using enough of it I can feel it open my sinuses. It’s similiar to nasal irrigation, but more expensive and less messy. Sue Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Share what you know. Learn what you don’t.

I can’t stand the idea of spending so much money for a tiny bottle of salt water. I make my own at home using the same formula as for irrigation: 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1 pint water (distilled is best, I usually use tap water since I run out of distilled). I put it in an empty Nasarel container. The pumps are good enough to last at least until I finish off another Nasarel. If you reuse any prescription bottle, make sure you rinse it thoroughly so you don’t mix meds (or O.D.)…

You may want to use it more than twice a day to really get the effects of it. My doctor had me doing it every hour. You get used to the sting and once your sinuses clear you’ll actually appreciate it more.
Response:
There is no sting from saline spray itself, it is the additives that bother persons. Find a spray without additives if you get and unpleasant sensation. check out http://www.pharmacy-solutions.com/ they are coming out with a preservative and additive free nasal spray in a few weeks.
