yellow mucous AGAIN! turbinates, concha bullosa, argghhhh!

Question:

Having suffered sinusitis for 5 weeks after recently moving to South China I felt I must post info about my surprisingly simple cure. Large doses of Vitamin C are extremely effective on many viral and bacterial diseases and I found the information at doctoryourself.com/titration.html – I tried two different antibiotics with a five day gap between drugs to see if I could kick the problem with my own immune system but no effect at all. If you take between 3 an 6 grams of Vitamin C in tablet form a day you will find symptons will reduce within hours and after that recovery starts to increase. I am now on day three of recovery and feel 100per cent better – I still have some occasional mucous and a cough which I will do some more work on but I feel totally better. The explanation of how Vitamin C/ascorbic acid works is on the website I have mentioned – do not be afraid about taking large quantities there is no side effect if you are ill – if you do not need Vitamnin C your body simply does not absorb it and the worst that can happen is that you get the runs. I have not suffered from stomach upsets on 4/6 grams a day which my body is currently lapping up . I have reduced doses to 3 grams now on day 4 which seems to be about right now, I will keep reducing this as I finally clear the cough etc. Good Luck – It actually works!

This message is for Steve L if you are still out there… Steve,   I just had my second operation last week and and recovering at home.  I had one of the best ENT surgeons in China operate on me and feel pretty confidant that he did the best anyone else could do. He said that whoever did my first surgery did a very conservative job. In any case, although I was told that the surgery was sucessful I am still suffering from this damn ear popping. You said that you had the same problem before. I even went back and saw some of your postings from a couple of years ago on ear popping. My question is how long after your surgery did the ear popping go away? Thanks Steve. 1. Yes, I moved to a new apartment with much better ventilation after my infection last January. But, I still got infected again in April. I tried to hold off on taking anti-biotics for a week but it just got worse. I don’t think its related to my accommodation.  I think 50% of the problem is living in Beijing. High pollution levels. 2. I use and love sinus irrigation. I just use warm distilled water and salt. 3.  Problem is totaly exaceberated by living here but it would be really difficult for me to leave a job and life I love here so much. I am considering it though. 4.  I’ve been to over a dozen GPs and ENTs.  I’m starting to get confused.  General message is, ya, it looks like you have a problem, no blatant obvious structural problems, but sure we should probably try surgery again now. Maybe its that concha bullsa or maybe your turbinates have gotten bigger again. Hey Steve, Thanks so much for your advice. Just want to confirm a few things: Did you have absolutely no prior symptoms before waking up and having so much yellow mucous?  I think this is unique because there are no apparent prior symptoms.  Most people first suffer with sinusitis congestion, possible clear mucous, and then yellow mucous. The fact the we just wake up one day to it suggests that a secondary infection has already occured without us being aware.  I imagine this is because of some stagnant cesspool that isn’t able drain itself from the sinuses.  It then become infected and the only way out is by coughing, swallowing it or blowing it out eventualy when there becomes so much of it. So your operation was successful? I assume the ENT spotted the blockages only during surgery then? How are you now? adam – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Steven Litvintchouk <sdlit…@earthlinkNOSPAM.net> wrote in message <news:2HXmc.8924$8S1.200@newsread2.news.atl.earthlink.net>… > Adam wrote: > > I’d appreciate any advice that you have for me. > > I get diagnosed with URTI or Sinusitis 5 – 6 times a year.  Nearly > > every time it gets out of control and I end up on anti-biotics and am > > ill for 3 weeks or more. > > Symptoms: > > –  I wake up on a given morning with huge chunks of gooey yellow > > mucous, feeling nausaus, and throwing up. I feel for you. Those used to be my symptoms too–except I didn’t manage to sleep thru the night.  Instead, I would be awakened in the middle of the night with that thick yellow gunk you’re describing pouring down the back of my throat. > –  I know I have no allergies, no hayfever. You should get a second opinion.  I also had an ENT who said I didn’t have sinusitis.  I had to see two other ENTs before I found one who diagnosed me properly–with chronic sinusitis. > –  unless I take antibiotics, the yellow mucous develops more and > more.  I get sick, have soar throat, a heavy head, congestion, and > feel absolutely terribe. > –  I have no pain in my sinuses but I have huge amounts of mucous and > congestion > –  For the last 4 years, my ears have had a popping sound everytime I > swallow even when ‘healty’ > Nothing cures it except antibiotics.

You’re not "curing" it, because it keeps recurring. Current medical thinking is that to completely cure a stubborn sinus infection, you may need to be on antibiotics for a *minimum* of 3 weeks continuously–some patients need to be on continuous antibiotics for a much longer period of time. > I had an operation 2 years ago to reduce the turbinates and straighen > the septum. Perhaps my experience might be instructive: My CT scan didn’t show blocked sinuses either.  And so ENTs kept looking at the CT scan and concluding that I didn’t have sinusitis. I finally found an ENT who knew that even CT scans aren’t 100% reliable–there’s about a 5% chance of false negatives.  And he agreed to operate on my sinuses, and found sinus blockages in there that the CT scan had missed. — Steven L.

sinusitis means swollen sinuses, thats all. the other ideas put forward are great imo. You can use colldial silver or traditional antibitics in your irrigator. This is much better on your body then doing IV lines of the stuff. It should also work better imo. good luck "I cannot affirm God if I fail to affirm man.  Therefore, I affirm both.Without a belief in human unity I am hungry and incomplete. [My suggestions below come without warranty of any kind.  Anyone's decision to act on anything I write below is theirs and theirs alone.] Adam, Man, I’m so sorry to hear about all your problems — that’s really frustrating.  Others in the group will have a lot more ideas than I do, but have you: 1) Thoroughly checked the environment in your home, including whether you have mold, drywall dust, or other "junk" in your ducts?  I strongly recommend getting the book "My House is Killing Me" (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0801867304/) and seeing if there’s anything in your home that’s contributing to your problems.  You’d be amazed by what can be going on in your home that you’d never think of. In my case, it led us to find a tremendous amount of drywall bits and dust in our ducts, which we had thoroughly cleaned out (and which helped my symptoms quite a bit). 2) Tried sinus irrigation with a saline/baking soda mixture using a HydroPulse machine or a neti-pot?  Do a search on "sinus irrigation" or "nasal irrrigation" on http://groups.google.com and you should find lots of matches. 3) Been tested for allergies?  IMHO, you don’t know whether you have allergies unless you’ve had skin or blood testing. 4) Does your condition change with location?  I haven’t been to China, but my understanding is that various vehicle/factory emissions controls are even more lax than in the US.  Could your problem be exacerbated by something in the air where you’re living? 5) Have you been to see "the best of the best" in terms of getting advice? A search in this newsgroup will show names of some of the top regarded sinus specialists (most of whom seem to be in the US). After suffering with multiple sinus infections, year after year, for decades, I experimented with flooding my nasal passages with a mixture of diluted 3% hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and kosher salt. I kept my forehead down for quite a while, hoping that the anti-infective mixture could get to the infected area(s) within my sinuses and nasal passages. . It worked! I have been sinus infection free for about 30 months. I think that my turbinates were infected, so flooding my nasal passages with the anti-infective mixture worked very well for me, since the infected areas were fairly easy to reach. . I have fully documented my experience and how I did it at Healthboards.com. I’d appreciate any advice that you have for me. I get diagnosed with URTI or Sinusitis 5 – 6 times a year.  Nearly every time it gets out of control and I end up on anti-biotics and am ill for 3 weeks or more. Symptoms: –  I wake up on a given morning with huge chunks of gooey yellow mucous, feeling nausaus, and throwing up. There is absolutely no prior cold or allergies to this.  It’s just BOOM – Yellow mucous ! –  I know I have no allergies, no hayfever. GP suggests sinsusitis. ENT says not likely) –  unless I take antibiotics, the yellow mucous develops more and more.  I get sick, have soar throat, a heavy head, congestion, and feel absolutely terribe. –  I have no pain in my sinuses but I have huge amounts of mucous and congestion –  For the last 4 years, my ears have had a popping sound everytime I swallow even when ‘healty’ Nothing cures it except antibiotics. I’ve tried mucosolvan, sudafed, flonase, anti-histamines, methalatum etc.  These things may help easy the pain but they don’t stop me from getting sick again. If I try the "natural healing approach" without drugs I only get worse and haved ended up in a terrible state of disorientation, anxiety, shutters, and actually singing or grunting. The last two times I was put on IV and had 3 weeks of anitbiotics (Zinacef or Klacid). Self diagnosis – I think there must be some stagnant area in my nose where the sinuses can’t drain themselves and get infected. CT scans show that I have a concha bullosa, a slightly deviated septum, and hypertrophic turbinates (obivously when I’m sick they are bigger).  I think the concha bullosa may be putting pressure on my nose, sinuses and middle ear (hence the popping for the last year). I had an operation 2 years ago to reduce the turbinates and straighen the septum. The ENT did not remove the concha bullosa because he thought it was too close to my brain.  I was fine for 6 months and then I started getting sick again.  My life is miserable 8 months of the year because I’m battling these constant infections. My work suffers, my girlfriends suffers, and so does my social life. My new ENT in China has suggest getting another operation. He thinks that the first operation was too conservative.  I’m frustrated, scared, and have spent thousands of dollars on medical consultations and drugs. Help.
