Viral Causation of Chronic Sinusitis

Question:

Without going into detail, I have recently come to a conclusion that my infections may start off viral and therefore allow bacterial infection to be introduced more readily and consequently proliferate.  I have ruled out allergies – I’ve been tested. I’ve had two surgeries – structural problems corrected.  Are there any researchers, practitioners in alternative medicine, virologists, sufferers, etc, who have info, resources, theories, empirical data, research that comment on my hypothesis? I have ben told by several ENT’s to try to avoid getting colds since that opens up the possibilty of allowing a bacteria sinus infection to start. Anything that irritates the sinus lining … smoke, perfumes, excessive dryness… will compromise the tissues and up the possibility of a sinus infection developing.
