Steroid nasal sprays should help.    Also avoid allergens (dust, mould). >I havent seen an ENT doctor but i suppose i should

Yes you should and get a CT scan done. > my normal doctor just >said it was hard to get rid of. How common is it that people become >completely better and make a full recovery

WIth a systematic approach (*not* trying random things) you should be able to get improvement. >, or will i have to put up with a >sore forehead and constantly blocked nostrils for the rest of my days?

It can’t really be discussed in the abstract  -you have to know the specfic cause.  I >don’t know if i could bear putting up with this for the rest of my life :( >I have seen http://www.betterlife.com/prod_home_page.asp?prod_id=11861 this >product (sinufix) Has this been tried by any users of this newsgroup and >does it work?

It was a bad cold that didn’t go away after a couple of weeks. > Is this the very first time you’ve ever had sinusitis in your entire > life?  Think hard.  When you caught a simple cold, how long did it take > for the post nasal drip and cough to finally go away?  Couple of weeks? >   Couple of months?

I did not have a cough, but the post nasal drip went away pretty quickly maybe a week or so. > With sinusitis, the key is finding out what’s causing it in the first > place.  For example, if you have respiratory allergies, then that could > well be the smoking gun and the allergies need to be treated.

Can you suddenly become allergic to something? or are you allergic from birth? Thanks for the reply Steven much appreciated. — Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Version: 6.0.512 / Virus Database: 309 – Release Date: 20/08/2003

OK.  That sounds classic:  a cold that morphed into a bacterial sinus infection, which led to chronic sinus inflammation.  That’s what happened to me. And at that point, there are numerous possibilities:  Bacteria that are still hiding in a polyp or cyst.  A sinus that became permanently blocked due to damage from the infection.  Even a tertiary fungal infection. An ENT will need to investigate all these possibilities. >>With sinusitis, the key is finding out what’s causing it in the first >>place.  For example, if you have respiratory allergies, then that could >>well be the smoking gun and the allergies need to be treated. > Can you suddenly become allergic to something? or are you allergic from > birth?

You can become allergic to something at any time.  For some 10 years I could take cephalosporin antibiotics with no problems.  Then I first became allergic to them last year. — Steven D. Litvintchouk Email:  sdlit…@earthlinkNOSPAM.net Remove the NOSPAM before replying to me.

Question:  Think hard.  How did your sinusitis start in the first place?   Did something change in your life–new job, new home, travel, allergies, anything?  Or was it a bad cold that simply refused to go away after a couple of weeks? Is this the very first time you’ve ever had sinusitis in your entire life?  Think hard.  When you caught a simple cold, how long did it take for the post nasal drip and cough to finally go away?  Couple of weeks?   Couple of months? With sinusitis, the key is finding out what’s causing it in the first place.  For example, if you have respiratory allergies, then that could well be the smoking gun and the allergies need to be treated. > I havent seen an ENT doctor but i suppose i should, my normal doctor just > said it was hard to get rid of. I know how you feel.  There’s no way to know where you stand until you consult with an ENT.  But I will say that the longer you wait before seeing the ENT, the greater the risk that your sinusitis will become worse. > I have seen http://www.betterlife.com/prod_home_page.asp?prod_id=11861 this > product (sinufix) Has this been tried by any users of this newsgroup and > does it work?

Don’t bother trying self-treatment with remedies touted over the Internet.  Believe me, that approach doesn’t work.  Even alternative remedies should be prescribed by a qualified holistic practitioner. As for THIS particular remedy:  Zinc gluconate has never been shown to have a beneficial effect on sinusitis.  It has been used successfully to treat simple common colds, but it can have some nasty side effects–like long-term anosmia.  I fell into that trap myself. — Steven D. It cut truncated by operator error. The ingredients suggest quackery. You are taking the wrong approach to this looking at ads like that…..

I havent seen an ENT doctor but i suppose i should, my normal doctor just said it was hard to get rid of. How common is it that people become completely better and make a full recovery, or will i have to put up with a sore forehead and constantly blocked nostrils for the rest of my days?
