Sinusitis and no Pain?

Question:

Lynne, I am one of the lucky ones who does not have a great deal of facial pain; however, I do have pain occasionally over one of the other eyebrows (usually the same side.)  Sometimes under an eye and above my teeth.  My gums will throb sometimes.  When it hurts over the eye, it is usually only to the touch and it is very sensitive then. I never had x-rays.  My understanding is that regular exrays don’t show what needs to be seen.  I had a c-t scan done and it does show my condition, on both sides. Screw this doctor.  It is your body and you are the best judge of what is going on.  I have a physician friend who asks his patients, after they have given him a list of symptoms, what THEY think is wrong with them before he starts analyzing.  As soon as you get your insurance, run to the nearest and BEST ENT you can find.  Doctors, are like everything else, good ones and bad ones.  It is unfortunate that so many of us seem to find the bad ones.  Good luck! – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Lynn*E wrote in message <37382469.C74E4…@earthlink.net>… >I have had throat clearing and some coughing as well as stuffy nose for >a few years now.  My nose produces mucus that has yellow/green in it >(although it is not totally yellow or green).  About once a month for a >few days I get a headache over my eyes, starting across the bridge of my >nose and sometimes it travels down the sides of my nose.  My MD did an >xray that was clear of sinus problems.  When he gives me antibiotics >(the normal 10 day dose) I always get better but within a week I am back >to the same again. >The Dr.s thoughts are that it is not sinusitis because I am not in pain >all the time and my xray was clear. >I have been doing nasal washes (ear syringe and salt water) which help >for quite a few hours after I do it and decongestants that seem to >really help alot. >When I try to suggest a CT Scan to my Dr. he rolls his eyes and wants to >know what armchair doctor I have been talking to.  Until my new >insurance kicks in in a few months, I have to use this doctor (insurance >required) >Are there any of you with Chronic Sinusitis that do not have the facial >headaches/pain? >Have you had clear xrays but a CT Scan showed you had sinusitis?????? >Thanks for the responses >Lynn

Yes an xray will only show structural damage, but the CT will shoe the sinus membranes and blockages. My advice is to put up with this fool doctor until you can get a new one and then see an ENT

Sometimes I have pain, sometimes I don’t…….. > Have you had clear xrays but a CT Scan showed you had sinusitis??????

For a very good explanation about the interpretation of CT scans and also sinusitis in general, take a look at Dr. Tichenor’s site: www.sinuses.com — Ruth Brecher ** Ooh, OK just another half then…**

Thanks to all the responses I got on this subject. I am going to pursue this sinusitis more with my Dr. since I have now learned that you don’t have to have pain to have an infection and the xray is not the ONLY way to see about sinusitis. I mostly do not have pain but today and the past few days I have had pain over my eye and across the bridge of my nose going down into my undereye area.  Yet, my nose is clear (from decongestant) and advil has not gotten rid of the pain.  I see the Dr. tomorrow so I will have another chance to grill him on this and maybe get an ENT referral. This makes me so angry because this is exactly what happened to me.  I never had any sinus pain until AFTER my surgery.  I was so plugged up that I guess it never got sore up there.  So I waited months to get properly treated just like you.  Print out these responses and also the ENT web page for physicians and bring it to your Dr.  Good luck.  Sinus pain is only one of the possible symptoms. I have had throat clearing and some coughing as well as stuffy nose for a few years now.  My nose produces mucus that has yellow/green in it (although it is not totally yellow or green).  About once a month for a few days I get a headache over my eyes, starting across the bridge of my nose and sometimes it travels down the sides of my nose.  My MD did an xray that was clear of sinus problems.  When he gives me antibiotics (the normal 10 day dose) I always get better but within a week I am back to the same again.   The Dr.s thoughts are that it is not sinusitis because I am not in pain all the time and my xray was clear. I have been doing nasal washes (ear syringe and salt water) which help for quite a few hours after I do it and decongestants that seem to really help alot.   When I try to suggest a CT Scan to my Dr. he rolls his eyes and wants to know what armchair doctor I have been talking to.  Until my new insurance kicks in in a few months, I have to use this doctor (insurance required)   Are there any of you with Chronic Sinusitis that do not have the facial headaches/pain? Have you had clear xrays but a CT Scan showed you had sinusitis??????   Thanks for the responses Lynn
