Sinus infection ? for Enbrel users
Question:
What Char said works. You’re not getting new sinus infections, but the same one recurs after you finish the antibiotic because it takes more than 10 days- two weeks to compeletly kill the sinus bugs. I found this out through experience. Stay on the antibiotic for a full four weeks. Gloria

Stay on the antibiotic for a full 4 weeks before you stop it. Sometimes it just takes longer to kill the bugs. Char "Remember, I’m pulling for ya’. We’re all in this together." Red Green
Response:
The first year I was on Enbrel I had a doozie of a sinus infection that took 4 months to clear. It only cleared when I stopped the enbrel but I took abx for two months after that. (mid way thru is when I stopped) Interestingly, I haven’t had a sinus infection since which makes me wonder if I didn’t have a lingering sinus infection that was never really cleared and would pop up time and time again when my immune system got a little low or I got a cold. That had been an ongoing problem for me prior to Enbrel anyway. So……we’ll see what this winter brings. Last winter it was UTI’s. — Cyberhugs……. Now that I’ve been off Enbrel for almost a year, I rarely get sinus infections. Tracy "if you’re on thin ice you may as well dance…"

Rite Aid, CVS, Just about any pharmacy… just ask the pharmacist for it — If they ain’t got it then they’ll order it — it’s about $3.00 USD per 16 fl oz (1 pint – 473 ml) container (lasts me ’bout a week). What a pleasant smell that stuff leaves behind — I love it! Contents of Alkalol: Alcohol (2/100 of 1%); Thymol; Eucalyptol; menthol; Camphor; Benzoin; Potassium alum; Potassium Chlorate; Sodium Bicarbonate; Sodium Chloride; Oils of Sweet Birch, Spearmint, Pine and Cinnamon. Excuse any typo’s here… I’ve got my yellow platex gloves on while cleaning the bathroom & lurking ASA & checking my inbox at the same time. My wife promissed me "Wild Passionate Luvin" tonight if I cleaned the bathroom before she got home from work today. I gotta get back to cleaning the bathroom quick!

Hi Peggy, Having dealt with chronic sinusitis for over 12 years now, my best advice is to subsribe to alt.support.sinusitis (another great usenet newsgroup). While reading past messages, look for ALKALOL — It’s good stuff — and all natural & cheap — no drugs!!! I’ve been on anitbiotics and sinus meds for many years ’til I found out about alkalol. My homemade recipe for irrigating my sinuses while in the shower: 1/2 tsp of Salt (table, sea, kosher, whatever) 1/2 tsp of Baking Soda 3/4 cup of Hot tap water (distilled water is even better) 1/4 cup of Alkalol Mix the above in one of those 1-cup rubbermaid containers and irrigate your sinuses with one of those bulb-suringes while you’re in the steamy-hot shower. Within the next hour ~GENTLY~ blow your nose into a tissue (while bopping your head side-to-side) to help drain the saline solution. It’s been several months since I’ve had any sign of a sinus infection since I’ve been adding the alkalol to the saline solution. Alkalol is basically Menthol, Eucalyptus (sp?), Birch and Spearmint oils that are added to saline solution. I hope this helps you… I know how miserable sinus problems can be. — Kendall F.
