Query re bleeding during sinus infection
Question:
A friend of mine, knowing that I (unforunately!) have a lot of experience with sinus infections, asked the following question. I’d never heard of this happening, so I thought I’d post it here and see if anyone else knows. She has a friend and friend’s son, presently living in a third world country, who have been diagnosed with sinus infections. However, one of the main symptoms is coughing up blood…enough, she says, to match any of her menstrual periods. My friend wondered if this is normal with sinus infections and asked me. Now, I’ve never coughed up any blood at all…I’ll occasionally bleed a bit at the nose, but that’s just because the area’s so irritated, I think. Has anyone here coughed up a large quantity of blood during an infection? My feeling is that the friend should get a second opinion, but of course, I’m not an expert, except in the sense that I have chronic sinusitis. –Pat Jacquerie
Response:
Coughing up blood is never part of a sinus infection.
