nasal/sinus infections – healing w/out antibiotics?
Question:
Hello, Has anyone had any success healing nasal and/or sinus infections (ie with pus) without antibiotics?
If the infection is simply bacterial with no fungal involvement, then it is possible for the body to heal itself eventually (after a long while), but only if normal sinus drainage is restored. Sinus infections result when sinuses are blocked and bacteria are able to multiply in the stagnant mucus. If the original cause of the blocked sinuses has been treated, then normal sinus drainage can be restored with sinus irrigation, inhaling steam, hot wet towels over the face, and lots of patience. Can the body heal these without any treatment whatsoever?
In general, without any treatment, sinus infections are not self-limiting within any reasonable time frame. I once carried one around for 3 months before I gave up and got it treated. As it turns out, most of my sinus problems were simply an underlying *symptom* of a systemic yeast infection being *caused* by taking the antibiotics.
That’s the problem. Finding the underlying cause of the recurrent sinusitis (fungal in Bill’s case, indoor/outdoor air pollution in my case), and dealing with it effectively, may be quite difficult. I wonder how many other folks have underlying yeast problems and don’t know it. I wonder how many other folks live and work in "sick buildings" and don’t know it. — Steven D. Can the body heal these without any treatment whatsoever? Cheers, Ken <* I had major problems with sinus infections for several years. It got to the point where anti-biotics were not doing much good. I finally went to a nose-throat specialist and he performed an outpatient surgical procedure reducing the size of the turbonates in my nose. Haven’t had a problem since!! It might be worth checking into. He told me another common problem some folks had which also caused similar symptoms was a deviated septum in the nose. As far as being able to kick the problem without anti-biotics or surgery…I was unable to.
Hello, I use herbal decongestants, usually in the blends, not just one specific herb. They come in lots of different combo’s and brands. I can’t say which one would be the most effective for you. Usually, the decongestants are enough, you may not need antibiotics, you are supporting the situation with the decongestants. But there are also very very effective herbal ‘anti’biotics. I’ve used them for serious situations and found them very effective. Such as impetigo. Ruth

Hi Ken, I suffered from chronic sinusitis for over 15 years and never experienced much improvement at al until I finally gave up on doctors and antibiotics and started taking a natural, holistic route instead. As it turns out, most of my sinus problems were simply an underlying *symptom* of a systemic yeast infection being *caused* by taking the antibiotics. Since I’ve gotten a handle on my yeast overgrowth over the past year, my sinus problems have all but vanished. If you’d like to know more, please feel free to write… Bill

At the pus stage I would be on my way to the doctor. A good antibiotic will probably fix you up in 24hrs. Don’t let this go. These sinus are close to your teeth, ears, eyes, brain — not good places to play around. Before that stage, try rinsing your nasal cavity with salt water. If you don’t have an ocean nearby, use a glass, sick your nose in, and inhale (stopping when it gets to your throat). Not real pleasant, but it is an old yoga cleaning practice, and works for many people. Some people do this as part of normal weekly hygeine. Try to learn to breath deeply through your nose every so often. Every hour or two at least. The hurricane messes up the little tropical resorts in your nose that microbes like. Avoid stress, house dust, molds, hospitals, doctors offices Seek sunshine, vit C (spread out through day), E, laughs
