Nasacort and the like
Question:
Can anyone tell me if there are risks associated wwith long term use of these preparations? Thanks Rob N
Response:
I believe that there are some very low probability and low impact side effects of these drugs. It is possible that the sinus tissues will excessively thin. I have also read that there might be a mild connection between nazal steroid use and cataracts. But, I also believe that the risks of these side effects are very, very, very low. They are also very, very, very low when compared to the guaranteed and severe side effects of chronic sinusitis and congenstion. A failure to control congestion, allergic reactions, and sinus infections is a virtual guarantee that you will suffer severe pain and will likely require surgery in the future. You asked, so those are the risks. But they are minute. I use them every day. I recomend Rhinocort Aqua. It seems to be the mellowest. You might also consider an evaluation for allergies. I am starting to believe that docs prefer to prescribe the nasal steroids in place of allergy therapies because too many people quit the therapy and prefer to just push a button to make their troubles go away. Make the best choice for you, but consider the effects of chronic congestion heavily. -O "Robin Norton" <norto…@esatclear.ie> wrote in message
