Mercury amalgam dental fillings
Question:
I have read many articles which suggest that mercury amalgam dental fillings > can contribute to candida overgrowth ,
A great deal depends on who wrote the articles and where they were published. It is one thing if the article is published by Jo Blow in the Astrology Monthly or on the internet. It is another if if is from Johns Hopkins published inthe New England Journal of Medicine. Since the lay person has real difficulty in distinguishing fact from fiction, this is why you need to discuss these "articles" with your doctor. There is a reason why it takes 10 years to get an MD degree. One is to learn to question and evaluate "claims". Murray Grossan, M.D. http://www.ent-consult.com http://www.TinnitusRelief.net

I do not disagree, but have just one question: where is it that it takes 10 years to get an MD degree? A full Bachelor’s degree with a pre-med concentration usually takes four years. Medical School is also four years, and then the MD degree is granted if performance has been adequate. Larry

Well, don’t drink milk and don’t eat eggs. Eat organically grown grains and oilseeds and don’t be silly.

Could you tell us specifically what the "holistic dentist" did to put your mouth in great shape? Gave you "Barley Green"? Or "Oat Yellow"?

Thanks. Yes, believing that BS might be true, I had all my amalgam fillings removed years ago and replaced with the white composite fillings (which don’t last as long, so I’ve had to have them replaced many times since then). No, it has not helped my sinus condition one bit. Most dentists say that theory is bunk.

As far as having my amalgam fillings removed, I have never had to have one replaced. They are fine. I had them put in about 15 years ago. I had them checked recently and they are rock solid. Sure, my dentist did some deep root planing. Then he put me on a regimen which involves using an oral irrigator called a HydroFloss. After irrigating with fresh water, I then use a solution called "Under the Gum" with a different tip that allows the solution to reach into the gum pockets. I do this once a day. I don’t even have to use regular dental floss. The Hydrofloss does the trick. The difference between the hydrofloss and waterpik is the water comes out magnetized due to magnets in the handle. There are other things too such as vitamins, herbs, etc. He did put me on a short course of antibiotics once. That also helped. Apparently there was some bacterial thing going on for a while that was finally arrested. I still have teeth in the back of my mouth that orthodox dentists told me I would lose. They are stronger than they were now thanks to the treatment that I received from my dentist and the daily oral hygiene maintenance that I perform. He is also a true humanitarian who really cares about my condition and does not break my financial condition. He works with me and is very compassionate about his fees. He is not getting rich on me. That I can guarantee. I have been under his fine care for a little over 2 years now. I might add that the only teeth that I have lost are 2 upper wisdom teeth. Not so bad! Please don’t tell me that it doesn’t work when my personal experience tells me otherwise. Same thing goes for nutrition in general. It has worked for me over the years. Detoxification and rebuilding using certain vitamins, herbs and green drinks such as Barley Green do play an essential role in a sense of well being. I used to go to this Naturopathic Doctor who had me feeling like a young kid again with all of the herbs that detoxified me from my former lifestyle. I think detoxification is very important way to achieve optimal health which leads to a sense of well being. In this polluted environment that we live in, we simply must take extra measures to keep our bodies performing optimally. Please, I do not want to argue about this or "open up a can of worms". I just want to tell you that it works for me and I believe it works for a lot of people. I do believe that many people are not diligent about it and therefore do not reap the results that they can have if they were. My biggest mistake in life was allowing an ENT to perform surgery on my nose. I haven’t been the same since simply because the anatomy of my nose is different. Very hard to deal with. If only I could go back to June 2, 1992. I would have ran out of the hospital. Tom

I’d like to add also that the 2 wisdom teeth that I lost happened well before I went to my present dentist.

The problem was the way they treat gum disease which is responsible for much tooth loss in adults. Orthodox approach is mostly periodontal surgery which involves removing gum tissue which exposes more of the tooth. This treatment does not keep gum disease from coming back. My gums are in great shape now thanks to Holistic Dentistry. >> Just a "well, eventually, you’re >> going to lose that one". Nonsense. Are trying to tell me that Orthodox Dentists don’t have large bank accounts? >> Dr. Quackwatch has nothing better to do >> with his time than to find negativity about things that really do work. It was an orthodox dentist who took the amalgam fillings out years ago. The Holistic Dentist didn’t have to since I already had that done. My tooth structures were not weakened at all. Poor argument on your part. Incidentally, no dental insurance is very comprehensive when it comes to paying for treatment. It’s almost the same as having no insurance. >> Would never let any >> dentist put them in either. I know all about the mercury in big fish like tuna and swordfish. I’m a vegetarian so I don’t ingest much mercury.

I have read many articles which suggest that mercury amalgam dental fillings can contribute to candida overgrowth , which may contribute to chronic sinusitis. I would like to know if anyone has tried having their mercury amalgam fillings removed and if that effort had helped their condition. Thanks.

Well I myself decided to go to a Holistic Dentist after being subjected to orthodox DDS practice procedures. I was helped enormously by the Holistic Dentist whereas the orthodox offer no hope. Just a "well, eventually, you’re going to lose that one". Nonsense. My mouth has never been in better shape now thanks to Holistic Dentistry. Dr. Quackwatch has nothing better to do with his time than to find negativity about things that really do work. By the way, I have no more amalgam fillings in my mouth. Would never let any dentist put them in either. Mercury is a poisonous substance to the human body and in my opinion does not belong in it. Why take the chance? Even if taking them out does not effect a noticeable difference in the way a person feels, it is still removing one more element of the toxic load that we must burden in this polluted world of ours.
