I'm Still Clogged Up and Producing Green Mucus (Since October)
Question:
I’ve tried Biaxin (7 days), Augmentin (14 days) and now Cipro for 10 days and my sinuses are still infected. I’m irrigating twice a day with salt water using an ear bulb. What should I tell my doctor tomorrow ? Thanks, Tony
Response:
Try irrigating with bactroban or another antibiotic solution. that should do it. Do I need a prescription for bactroban ? I never heard of it and I bet my doctor never did either. Tony
Response:
Yep, they have a liquid for it. It’s given to alot of nurses in hospitals these days. after failing three antibiotics you should have your nasal cliia checked, as well as a CT scan. Failure after three antibiotics may be due to failure of cilia movement or an anatomical problem. Are you taking enough tea and liquids, compresses? Ask your doctor about using pulsatile irrigation to restore the cila function. Murray Grossan, M.D. http://www.ent-consult.com

I had a CT scan performed following 2 weeks of Augmentin. The scan showed no sign of disease or structural problems. I can breathe through my nose if I take Sudafed to open it. I drink water all day long. What’s so special about tea ? Is it the steam or does the warm liquid somehow cause a reaction in the sinuses ? Thanks, Tony
Response:
There is a chemical in the tea that stimulates the nasal and bronchial cilia . Murray Grossan, M.D. http://www.ent-consult.com

Did the CT show alot of swelling in the sinuses? The ENT didn’t say anything about swelling. He just showed me that the sinuses were black. He said if there were gray areas, that would mean I have an infection.
Response:
You can see by yourself if the sinuses are inflamed. Sadly many ENT’s do not take this into account. Mine were inflamed and then they scraped out the scar tissue. I have no more top sinuses. Can’t say this enough, inflamation can be an infection. good luck On Thu, 26 Feb 2004 16:51:44 GMT, "Tony Banana" – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -<tony_ban…@hotmail.com> wrote: >"Dali" <bre…@cya.net> wrote in message >news:itcr3012b15k79tjq08vdn3aajimgpfs26@4ax.com… >> Did the CT show alot of swelling in the sinuses? >The ENT didn’t say anything about swelling. >He just showed me that the sinuses were black. Your ENT doesn’t know what he’s talking about. My ENT says that green (as opposed to just yellowish) mucus is an infection. Period. My ENT was also smart enough to realize that even CT scans can miss tiny pockets of infection–in my case, I had chronic sinusitis despite a negative CT scan. Your ENT should take a culture of that mucus to find out just what bugs are in it. Do not irrigate before seeing him, because you’ll flush the mucus out and then he won’t be able to culture anything. It is entirely possible that the bugs have become resistant to the usual antibiotics. The idea of antibiotic irrigation is good, but Bactroban isn’t all that good. Try asking your ENT for a gentamicin irrigation solution. (Make sure you don’t swallow any of it!) — Steven L.

what’s the recipe for gentamicin irrigation with your Grossan irrigator? Gentamicin irrigation often works when oral antibiotics do not–but I forgot what the recipe is. — Steven L.

Really? it saved my life because it is good against strep pyogenes. thanks for the name drop on the other antibiotic. I used the solution made and sold by Sinuspray.com a division of Sinucare.com. Now checking their website, I can’t find the genta irrigation. They originally (and still do) supply IV abx for chronic sinusitis. I think the recipe was 20ml of solution (premixed in saline) to each nostril after regular irriagation to remove residuals. I have used the genta a couple times since and had a local compounding pharmacy mix it up with my docs script. We used the same mixture which Sinuspray pharmacist helped supply to compounder. If you feel like doing a little research, they have alot of info there, but no search tool. Dr Grossan was on their list of docs. Steven Litvintchouk sdlit…@earthlinkNOSPAM.net wrote:

I agree on your assesment of how ENT’s read CT scans. Even if clear the sinus tissue may still have an aenorbic infection. The only way to culture is with a sinus puncture which they will never do. too dangerous.
