ENT in Chicago area

Question:

Hi All, Could someone recommend a good ENT in Chicago area who’s experienced in treating chronic sinusitis, and is knowledgeable about irrigation technique.  So far the ENTs I’ve met were all either "antibiotics and surgery" or "it’s perfectly normal/nothing can be done" variety. If the recommendation is better kept private, please email me.  Thank you. qborba Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/

qborba, Loyola University Hospital doctors in Maywood are supposed to be the best according to my allergist. But I think "best" needs to be defined. Perhaps they are the best *surgeons.* But the one I saw, the big kahoona (you can email me privately for his name) never mentioned irrigation until I did and then he suggested using the ear syringe.  On the other hand, he was the first to tell me that sinus surgery is not a cure. I was at the Mayo clinic in ‘89 and a BIG name ENT there (who has an ego beyond belief!) advocated irrigation, once again, using the syringe. Perhaps they are now more advanced and recommending the Grossan irrigator. I found  an ENT in Naperville (western suburbs) who used the Grossan irrigator and was very conservative about surgery. Because I had previously had turbinate reduction done, he felt that too much tissue that is necessary for retaining moisture had already been removed. He prescribed a liquid Tobramycin for me to add to the end of my irrigation solution when I started to feel a sinus infection coming on. After using that for two days, I was fine.  Unfortunately for me, he decided to move back East. I am still looking, too! Good luck,

The use of Tobramycin added to the Water Pik was first described by Terrance Davidson on San Diego. Murray Grossan, M.D. http://www.ent-consult.com http://www.TinnitusRelief.net

Hi Dr. Grossan, Not sure if you mis-replyed to this thread or I missed some postings on this thread, but I’d sure love to find out if there are Drs like Davidson in Chicago area.  I am desperate enough to play guinea pig for low-risk experiments. qborba – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -ENTconsult wrote: > The use of Tobramycin added to the Water Pik was first described by Terrance > Davidson on San Diego. > Murray Grossan, M.D. > http://www.ent-consult.com > http://www.TinnitusRelief.net

Oh, I see there was a post regarding Tobramycin.  Sorry.  Well, unfortunately the Dr. from Naperville is no longer around.   qborba – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -ENTconsult wrote: > The use of Tobramycin added to the Water Pik was first described by Terrance > Davidson on San Diego. > Murray Grossan, M.D. > http://www.ent-consult.com > http://www.TinnitusRelief.net

Dr. Grossan, Folks have suggested adding various ‘things’  (antibiotics, Betadine etc.) on this NG to the standard saline irrigation water. This Tobramycin is a new one for me. I am interested what all you (and other folks) recommend can/should be added to Saline Irrigation water during a sinus infection (as well as for ‘normal’ usage). (assuming we all know all to make/use standard saline irrigation solution – including your breathe.ease). thanks "ENTconsult" <entcons…@aol.com> wrote in message

Response:

there must be a specific indication for using Tobramycin or Gentamycin. this stuff ain’t candy. I usually don’ tneed to recommend these products except in very special cases that have failed treatment and where X rays suggest that this treatment would help. Betadyne has antiseptic properties and physcicians may recommend this as an aid to clearing the sinus infection. Again, need to have a reason for this.
