Chronic Sinusitis and surgery

Question:

I would like any info on sinus surgery.  Nothing seems to be working for my 6 yr old son and I believe that is our next step.  Got the CT Scan report back and his sinuses are "grossly abnormal".   Any advice is appreciated.  Please email if possible.  lisaj…@ix.netcon.com Thanks, Lisa

netcon.com My son apparently inherited sinus problems from his mom (lucky kid). When he was five he had surgery to remove his adenoids (pretty typical) and alot of extra tissue that was growing in his sinuses. Luckily his weren’t "grossly abnormal" as your son’s are. That was Feb. 1993 and we have reduced the incidence of sinus infection to a couple of times a year always following a cold. An additional, but extremely beneficial side effect is that the sugery allowed him to correct what would have become a serious speech impediment. Because of the sinus blockage he was unable to form "plosives" (p’s, m’s, t’s – those sorts of sounds) correctly and in ordert o try to say them he was developing a sort of lisp to compensate for it. The surgery avertedthe need for speech therapy that would have been necessary if he had been older when the surgery was done. If your phyiscian recommends it, I would do it without hesitation. The longer your son lives with it, the greater his problems will become and six is a good age to deal with it.                                                  Marni Prescott     (MHPresc…@prodigy.com)
